Course relevance
It is generally accepted that the incidence of injury in sport is too high. As we push our athletes and sportspeople in the pursuit of higher standards, inevitably from time to time their bodies will break.
The secret is to reduce the risk of avoidable injuries.
In other words those that are caused by lack of proper preparation and conditioning and also those caused by improper biomechanical preparation of the athlete and sportsperson.
By understanding how to measure the athlete’s individual biomechanics in a very simple, cost effective and safe way, their specific injury risks can be identified and an exercise programme can be established to compliment their usual training regimen.
Regular monitoring can then be performed to make sure the athlete is training effectively and working at the right level relative their biomechanical capabilities. This has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of injury.
Endorsements
The programme is endorsed by UK Athletics and the Education Programme is being run throughout the UK. The programme is also being run for all sports coaches for all sports.
Who should attend?
Sports coaches, personal trainers, fitness instructors, sports therapists, strength and conditioning coaches, complimentary therapists, and P.E teachers.
Course details
There are 3 x 1-day courses in the series, taking the participant through from basic to advanced levels, each course is run approximately 2 months apart to allow the participant to integrate the first level into their work, before moving on to the next level.
Course content
There are 3 phases of training, where we take the participant through the Normalise phase, then the Stabilise and finally Functionalise phase, and each phase is taught in a 1-day course.
The first phase is where we teach the coach very quick, simple and safe ways of how to measure the way the body works and how the body is compensating for any biomechanical problems. Once any problems are established, we then show them how to manage these issues by prescribing the right exercises.
Regular monitoring tells the coach when the athlete or players is ready to move onto the next level. At that time, more measures are taught to show the coach how to see whether their core is working properly, and if not exercises are shown to improve it’s function.
The final phase is where we show the coach how to integrate the stability work with functional training that relates to the relevant sport or event.
